Paddington Recreation Ground 'The Rec' was opened in 1888 providing cricket, tennis, a cycle track and a pavillion.
Around the turn of the 19th Century saw a large number of mansion blocks built rather than family homes. These included Lauderdale in 1897; Ashworth, Elgin, Leith in 1900;and Carlton and Castellain in 1902 with Biddulph and Delaware in 1907.
These mansion blocks were some of the first flats and at that time "respectable people" did not live in flats!
