Maida Vale is offically defined as the area bounded by the Regent's Canal on the South, Maida Vale (Edgware Road) on the East, Kilburn High Road to the North and Shirland Road/Formosa St to the West. Although many might suggest otherwise it does not stretch over to the Harrow Road!
Examination of a map will show that Lauderdale really is at the heart of Maida Vale.
The name comes from a battle fought in Sicily in the early 19th Century against the French. The commander of the British forces in this battle was created the Count of Maida and in 1809 a tavern called the Hero of Maida was established on the Edgware Road.
